The IGI Certificate
IGI
Reaching more corners of the world than any other organisation, IGI receives the widest variety of gemstones and fine jewellery articles for certification.

IGI Diamond Reports have different formats and presentations, customised to serve a wide range of consumer demand in our different world-wide markets. Regardless of format, every IGI Diamond Report gives an accurate assessment of a diamond’s cut, colour, clarity and carat weight and is issued according to the strict international standards and security features for which IGI is known. IGI Diamond Reports are issued for diamonds of any size; a plotted diagram of the characteristics and a graphic representation of proportions appear on many of our documents.

The Importance of Certification

The value of a precious stone is determined by its gemological makeup, natural rarity and finished quality.

Diamonds and gemstones of similar appearance can have important differences in value. Even experts need powerful analytic tools to detect synthetics, treatments and enhancement processes. An IGI Certificate clearly discloses the details of any item it accompanies, providing confidence for both buyer and seller.

How to Buy your Diamond & Gemstones with Confidence

A diamond’s beauty is the result of natural aspects of the rough crystal combined with the finished quality of the cutting and polishing process.

The famous 4 Cs, used to describe a diamond’s attributes, are well known throughout the world. Some aspects can be determined at a glance: Is it large or small? Is it icy or warmly tinted? Is it clean to the naked eye or do some of nature’s birthmarks show themselves? Does it sparkle madly with rainbow-coloured flashes, or is it calm, deep and serene?

Beyond a glance, precise information determined by impartial experts must be assigned to each diamond. For example, what specific colour grade should be assigned? Do the natural characteristics impact durability? Are the primary angles inside the ranges found optimum for visual performance? Each of a diamond’s 4 Cs deserves an in-depth evaluation that goes beyond the abilities of unaided and untrained eyes.

A certificate from IGI represents the all-important 5th C that no one should be without: Confidence. As the world’s largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute for diamonds, coloured gemstones and jewellery, IGI is a standard of excellence for industry professionals and consumers around the globe.
